He was using two canes, one hidden behind me,
but he is down to one now,
and soon he will get running legs!
Not having a knee is really, really, REALLY (REALLY!) hard,
and his determination and resilience are amazing!
We got big laughs when he pushed me in his chair at the Amputee Coalition Conference in late June 2013.
This was the first time he had left the hospital bubble since the calamity.

His hand was in constant pain partly
because his body was consuming the bones
in his index finger, so the doctor cut it off.
The good news is that he has a middle finger again :-)
Unfortunately the other surgery at the same time
failed, decapsulation in his knuckles,
and he is having more surgery on February 7, 2014
to improve the range of his current "meat hook."
It is on the day of the Brigade ball,
and we are both so sad that we can't make it
because we were looking forward to seeing friends!
In January 2013 his flap and graft were failing,
so the doctors ordered five days and nights of leech therapy.
He went through almost 100 leeches, all named Gus,
and he had to have a few transfusions
because he lost a lot of blood during this treatment.

December 4, 2012 Jeremy made us laugh :-) His spirit and strength are how he managed to stay alive! He is truly an outstanding person!
|
Our son graduated from university in December 2013.
Whew! We are so proud of him!
Jeremy and I were high school sweethearts,
and our son is also an incredible person! |
He has a dedicated spot where he does his occupational therapy every morning.
Qatar is missing.
Thrice he was in Iraq.
